Old Hatchery Trail

Trail Highlights: Tucked away in the wooded community along Pinecrest Drive in Lakeside, the Billy Creek Connector trail follows a three-quarter mile dirt path through meadows, rows of ponderosa pines, and the creek itself. A simple hike for those not wanting to dedicate a whole day to their activity, the trail is relaxing and not heavily used.

Shortly after the hike starts, there are a few forks in the trail, Taking the left path at each fork, one will find themselves in a small clearing next to Billy Creek full of incredibly green trees and grass. Some have seen a variety of birds over the water; many with bright neon colors and unusual chirps.

Continuing along the predominantly flat trail, the shad trees provide respite over the path. Totaling roughly an hour hiking at a leisurely pace, the Billy Creek Connector is an easy and highly enjoyable hike. If you’re planning to go near the water and spend some time bird watching near the creek, bring bug spray—otherwise it could be a rough experience.
